Officials from the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans today announced a comprehensive 10-year plan to address growing public dissatisfaction with the local water system.

“With this strategic plan, it is our goal that for the next 10 years we will not look at emails, answer phones, have appointments, or even be at the office,” said Sewerage & Water Board executive director Clyde Jackson.

“I feel confident that in ten years I won’t be here nor care. I’d be surprised if anyone shows up to the office tomorrow.”

Over the last decade, residents have been putting pressure on City Hall to modernize the area’s plumbing, citing old and broken pipes, constant boil advisories, frequent backups, and highly inaccurate bills. Jackson promises the new plan will take them all into account.

“It took seven long months and hundreds of thousands of dollars, but I firmly believe we’ve found and plugged every possible way someone could get in touch with us,” said Jackson.

Several other city departments reportedly are now looking to develop and implement similar plans.
