Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is considering a run for president in 2028 after reportedly receiving strong encouragement from Mom, giving the potential campaign an early boost in internal polling.
Landrieu confirmed this week that he is seriously thinking about entering the race, telling Politico he would run if he believed he was best suited for the job, could win, and could help bring the country together. A final decision could come after the midterm elections or toward the end of the year.
The potential candidacy is said to have gained momentum after Mom reminded Landrieu that he is a very smart boy, has always been a natural leader, and could absolutely be president if that is what he wants to do.
She also noted that the other candidates “don’t have anything you don’t have,” before asking whether he had eaten anything today or if he was just living off coffee again.
The announcement reportedly inspired several other New Orleanians to begin considering positions for which they are also technically eligible.
By Wednesday afternoon, dozens of residents were reportedly considering careers in professional sports and space exploration.
Sources close to Landrieu say Mom has already begun casually telling several people at her bridge game that her son may be running for president, adding that he “always had such a nice speaking voice” and would look very presidential sitting behind a big desk.
Landrieu has yet to formally enter the race, though Mom reportedly sees little reason he shouldn’t, noting that he has always been good at figuring things out when he puts his mind to it.
Mom remains confident, noting that if people just took two minutes to get to know him, they’d see what a special young man he is.
