Uptown parents Jason and Marissa Landry confirmed their 6-year-old son, Caleb, appeared to complete a full 22-minute car ride sentence Friday without taking a noticeable breath, beginning “somewhere around the driveway” and continuing well past arrival.

According to witnesses, the monologue moved fluidly from a recess dispute to a dream, before expanding into what may have been a hypothetical involving a dog, a pirate ship, and a substitute teacher.

“There weren’t any real breaks,” Jason said. “At one point, I thought he stopped, but he was just pivoting.”

A brief inhale at a red light on St. Charles Avenue was immediately used to introduce a new detail, effectively extending the sentence’s scope.

Marissa said she stopped following around minute three. “Now I just nod and hope it’s the right time.”

While the 22-minute car ride marked the initial duration, the sentence reportedly continued through parking and into the walk inside, with no clear indication it is approaching an endpoint.

Experts say the case supports growing evidence that children ages 4 to 8 can sustain a single, evolving sentence throughout an entire commute, with breathing now considered “optional.”
