Who Dat Nation (concussion) sidelined for several weeks after Saints loss

Who Dat Nation (concussion) sidelined for several weeksNeutral Ground News

Oft-injured New Orleans Saints running back Kendre Miller wasn’t the only one to be knocked out yesterday.

The Who Dat Nation will be out for “weeks,” according to NFL Insider Ian Shittstirrer, after sustaining an estimated 4,015,901 concussions during yesterday’s 6th straight Saints loss, a limp 26-8 defeat to the lackluster Chargers.

The concussions reportedly struck early – late in the first quarter, to be exact – when fans collectively smacked their foreheads as Coach Dennis Allen opted for what has been deemed the “NFL’s most cowardly punt since ’99,” from the Chargers’ 47-yard line on 4th and 1. At the time, both teams were scoreless, and over 11 agonizing minutes of gameplay in the first remained.

The Saints haven’t released specific details on the injury’s severity, but team sources told Neutral Ground News that recovery time is expected to mirror the post-Atlanta Falcons incident of Week 4, where an ‘it figures’ 30-yard pass interference penalty on Paulson Adebo set up Younghoe Koo’s game-winning 58-yard field goal with two seconds left, delivering a brutal 26-24 loss.

“It isn’t season-ending or anything like that,” said GM Mickey Loomis. “Obviously, we feel for the fans – they’ve worked tremendously hard to support this team through thick and thin. But look, good organizations look beyond the injuries to figure out the ‘why’—why fans keep showing up, why they keep smacking their foreheads. We know, when healthy, we have a good team. We’re confident in that. We have to weather this storm and weather weeks where we’re not at full strength. And I’m sure they’ll bounce back after knocking back a few.”

Coach Dennis Allen also acknowledged the Who Dat Nation’s injury in his post-game interview, offering condolences but not specifics, stating, “Look, the Who Dat Nation is certainly a fan base that has played a major role for us, okay? I hate that for them. I really do. I’m sorry. But, look, these things happen. It’s next fans up. But I really am sorry.”

As a temporary measure, the Saints are reportedly testing out free-agent fanbases from other teams this week, ideally those with experience in high tolerance for frustration and low expectations. Potential candidates include fan bases from Carolina, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Tennessee, the Jets’ Gang Green, and the recently released Cincinnati Bengals Who Deys due to their familiarity with a system similar to the Saints and their expertise in enduring endless cycles of hope and despair. “They get us,” noted an unnamed Saints insider. “Might be just what we need.”

The Who Dat Nation, considered a top-five NFL fan base and a Saints franchise cornerstone for over 57 years, has been the lone bright spot during many dim seasons. But injuries have plagued Who Dats ever since the end of the 2017 season, following a series of crushing postseason losses and playoff droughts.

After the infamous NFC Championship against the Los Angeles Refs in 2019, experts wondered if the Who Dat Nation would ever fully recover, with some fans murmuring they were “done with the NFL.

“It’s disappointing,” admitted a visibly dazed Who Dat, slurring slightly as they stumbled out of the Dome. “It’ll take some time, and we’ll need to take it easy for a bit… but we’ll be back.”
