A routine door opening yesterday evening took an unexpected turn after a local gecko’s plan to slip through alongside it ended abruptly, according to sources familiar with the sequence of events.
The gecko, described by witnesses as “moving with purpose,” appeared to commit fully to the maneuver, positioning itself along the inner edge of the door frame just moments before closure.
“He looked like he’d done it before,” said Darren “DJ” Melancon, who witnessed the incident while walking his dog. “There was no hesitation. If anything, it was confident.”
That confidence, however, was reportedly based on a misreading of both timing and spacing, as the door completed its normal, unmodified closing path.
Witnesses confirmed that the door, which has a long track record of closing in the same location, did not deviate from expectations.
“There were no surprises from the door,” homeowner Bob Theriot said. “It did what it always does.”
The incident has renewed quiet discussion among area homeowners about the ongoing pattern of geckos attempting similar entries, where the margin for error remains extremely narrow.
